Goldendoodle colors & markings are so plentiful it’s amazing. There is a color for everyone! I often have people remark that they never knew a Goldendoodle came in any other color than apricot or red.
Mini Goldendoodles are one of the most beautifully diverse breeds when it comes to coat colors and markings. From vibrant reds to rare blues and stunning phantom patterns, their coats are truly something special.
This guide is my friendly, easy to read breakdown of the most common, and the most unique, Mini Goldendoodle colors and markings. Whether you’re exploring future puppies or just learning more about the breed, I hope this page helps you discover what makes each coat type so charming.
Mini Goldendoodles come in a wide range of colors, many inherited from both the Golden Retriever and Miniature Poodle genes. Some shades are extremely common, while others are considerably less common and are more sought after.
Below, I break down the colors I see most often and what you can expect from each one.
Red Mini Goldendoodles are bold, eye-catching, and incredibly popular. Their rich red coats range from deep mahogany to bright red tones. Add some white markings and they will stop traffic!

Red Mini Goldendoodle
Strong, warm reddish coat
Shades may fade slightly over time (common with Poodle genetics)
Paired with darker noses and eyes
Red is one of the most requested colors among families, and it’s easy to see why. This color is also one that we only get a handful of each year.
Apricot Mini Goldendoodles have a soft, golden hue that looks gentle and warm. Their color is lighter than red but richer than cream.

Apricot Mini Goldendoodle Puppy
Light to medium peachy gold color
Can darken a little as puppies mature
One of the most common Mini Goldendoodle colors
Apricot coats are loved for their soft, teddy-bear look. This is our most common coloring.
Cream Mini Goldendoodles are lighter than apricot and have a soft ivory or creamy champagne tone. They tend to have a clean and classic appearance. They can fade to become pure white looking if they carry a fading gene, which is common.

Cream Mini Goldendoodle
Light ivory or warm off white
May darken around the ears or muzzle
Often paired with dark expressive eyes
Cream puppies have a sweet, gentle look that families love.
Black Mini Goldendoodles are less common than the golden toned colors, but they are absolutely stunning. Their solid black coats shimmer beautifully in the sun.

Black Mini Goldendoodle
Fully black or charcoal coats
May lighten slightly as they grow
Always stand out in photos
Black Mini Goldendoodles often have the sleekest coat appearance of all colors. We get black parti colored Mini Goldendoodle puppies regularly.
Blue Mini Goldendoodles are born black and gradually lighten into a dark, smoky gray blue shade as they mature. Many times they will appear almost black when their coats are left long, but show a dark charcoal gray when clipped short. This color is very less common and is very eye catching. We get a handful of blue puppies every year.

Blue Mini Goldendoodle
Coat appears black at birth
Gradual shift into steel gray or blue black tones
A highly sought after color among goldendoodle lovers
Blue is one of the most unique Mini Goldendoodle colors.
Silver Mini Goldendoodles begin as black puppies but lighten to a soft, light silver gray shade over the first year or two. They start fading at around 6 – 8 weeks old.

Silver Goldendoodle
Pale gray to medium silver coats
“Frosted” appearance as the coat transitions
Long, slow color development
Silvers are a less common and elegant color variety. We have had many silver colored puppies.
Parti colored Mini Goldendoodles have a coat that is at least 50% white, mixed with patches of any other color, including red, apricot, cream, black, silver, or chocolate.

Black Parti Mini Goldendoodle Puppy
White base with large colored patches
Symmetrical or random markings
Wide variety of color combinations
Parti coats are bright, joyful, and always unique. No two are ever the same. We mainly breed for parti colors!
Phantom Mini Goldendoodles have a very specific pattern similar to a Doberman or Rottweiler. Their body is one color, and their eyebrows, muzzle, chest, cheeks, and legs feature contrasting points. We have a handful of phantom colored puppies every year.
Black with tan markings
Chocolate with tan markings
Silver with cream markings
Phantoms are also less common in the Mini Goldendoodle breed and they are extremely striking.
Brindle Mini Goldendoodles have a tiger striping pattern, usually blending darker stripes over a lighter base coat. We have only had one puppy with brindling so far, but have a couple of adult dogs that carry it. Brindling is truly one of the most unique Goldendoodle colors & markings.
Mix of warm and dark tones
Highly variable stripe intensity
Often appears marbled or streaked
Brindle coats are some of the most distinctive in the breed and can be harder to find than many of the other colors and markings.
In addition to their main coat color, Mini Goldendoodles can also have a variety of beautiful markings. These markings often add character and give each puppy a unique look.
White markings on chest, forehead, paws, or nose, neck, tail (called abstract)
Tuxedo markings (full white chest with white paws)
Abstract (less than 50% white)
Irish trim (white on chest, collar, muzzle, and legs) (called abstract, too)
Markings vary greatly from puppy to puppy, and that’s part of the fun. Every Mini Goldendoodle is one of a kind.
Yes! Color changes are very common in Mini Goldendoodles. Poodle genetics can cause fading, lightening, or shifting tones as puppies grow. Most of the time they will get lighter with age.
Reds may lighten to apricot or gold
Blacks may fade to blue or silver
Apricots may become lighter or white
Silvers and blues lighten gradually over 1–2 years
I love getting pictures of our puppies when they get full grown so I can see how they’ve changed.
Mini Goldendoodle colors & markings are influenced by a combination of Golden Retriever and Miniature Poodle genes. Poodles carry a wide variety of color producing genes, which is why the Goldendoodle inherits such a wide range of colors and markings.
Red intensity modifiers
Dilution genes (responsible for blue and silver)
Parti and piebald pattern genes
Phantom and tan point genes
Brindle striping genes
Genetic testing can help breeders to predict what colors they can expect out of each litter they produce.
While color is fun to explore, I always remind families that a puppies personality and health should be the most important things. A puppy’s color is the “icing on the cake,” but the true joy of owning a Mini Goldendoodle comes from:
Their sweet personality
Their intelligence
Their family focused, playful nature
Their loving attachment to their humans
Still, choosing a coat color you love makes the experience even more special!
No matter which Mini Goldendoodle colors & markings you fall in love with, red, apricot, cream, black, blue, silver, parti, phantom, or brindle, Mini Goldendoodles are beautiful in every color. Their coats are diverse, expressive, and uniquely charming. As a breeder, watching their colors and patterns develop is one of my favorite parts of raising them. There are other colors not mentioned here, including brown (chocolate), and merle. We do breed the brown (chocolate) color but do not breed the merle color.
